    Default Local News Feeds

As some may have noticed, the Kokomo Tribune, in their infinite wisdom, has redesigned their website and seemly no longer offers RSS feeds to other referrers (like NotInKokomo.Com).

The Kokomo Perspective does offer limited RSS feed capability which we will start picking up shortly and posting in our Local News section.

We're also working with our partners at Google so that we can continue providing 'derived' feeds from the KT for Local News.

We hope to have the new feeds working by Monday. Thank you for your patience.

NIK in case my vote counts, I like the Perspective format better than the KT. Of course I like the Perspective paper better than the Tribune and would consider it the best if it had a comics section. (Besides local politics )

    Grump,

Certainly your vote counts. My problem with the Perspective is that their news feeds don't always reflect local news and can sometimes repeat. That's probably an issue with their software they're still trying to correct.

It says volumes that the Perspective spent a considerable amount of time and (assumed) money doing their website re-design. It is a great web presence and they did it while preserving their article archive. Whoever is in charge of that project does a great job.

The KT and CNHI are using a freeware web application called Zopes. It's cutting edge but has its share of problems. Why anyone at CNHI felt now was the time to roll it out is beyond me? I personally see this as an old-media response (typical) to a new media challenge. He11, let's throw something out there and people will read it because we are..... the PAPER.

    Pathetic.

The new KT website is cheesy and has many more ads than I'd ever consider responsible. It looks like some hacker selling 'free' software or worse. I believe CNHI thinks nothing of their presentation on the web... instead preferring to gasp their last breath believing people will actually continue buying their newspapers.

Too bad.... and end of rant. I wish all the KT folks well.

They, like a lot of politicians, think their way is the only way and little people will do as their told. It might have worked once, but there are many sources for the same information and it usually is more accurate and faster delivered. AND it is free.

The old ones won't change and the young don't give a sh$t. The ones in between are going to change the world.

They also want to tell you what to think. I believe that Community-Source news is the answer.

There are a lot of people here who read the news, watch the news, and generally keep up with the things that are going on in the local area, state, and National government. Lots of people here are familiar with email. Most of you know how to wield a digital video camera and upload the footage to YouTube.

Holding government officials accountable manifests itself differently than it used to. In the old days, we called and wrote letters. Your representatives have shown us that they don't pay attention to this anymore. Today, in order to keep them honest, we need to show up at meetings with our video cameras, our laptops, and our questions. WE have to put them on the record.

Perhaps you all feel it is a bit self-serving of me to point to it, but I have made available a community-source site at www.lookoutkokomo.com. It isn't for personal gain at this point. I just want this community to have a place to go on record and write what they've seen happen.

I don't want it to be a site where people go to hear what I think... I want us ALL to take part. Will you join me? I hope you'll consider it.
