Red face 2010 Howard County Sheriffs race or the Jekyll and Hyde campaign.

As the end of the year approaches and the official filing date to run for Sheriff fast approaches, one cant help but feel that they are caught in the middle of a bad sci-fi adventure. Example; As I enter the sacred realm of the departments corridors one feel the ominous environment created by the current Sheriff. People are busy running around the halls in a hurried pace to constantly appear busy to avoid the wrath of the current Sheriff.

During the normal day most want to get in and out of the building as fast as possible. But hey who’s that guy coming towards me? Why its Major Rogers, ok, relax I tell myself he’s a decent guy, he’s not seen very much and not a very personably fellow. What’s this? He’s taking time to shake everyone’s hands and I don’t believe it, he is smiling. He slowly approaches me, normally he could care less if I’m here. He holds out his hand, smiles and asks me “how’s your family doing”. I answer his question and we shake hands as he move on to the next person.

I stand totally bewildered then I snap to my senses and realize he has announced he is running for Sheriff. So now I understand why he showing up with his happy, I really care poker face on. It’s all about convincing me to forget about Talbert and how he offers a new improved Sheriffs department with the end of Talbert’s term.

I deliver some paperwork and clear over hear another person trying a sales pitch for Sgt. Ferguson on two captive correction officers. Oh the promises that are made for a vote and they are never fulfilled immediately comes to my mind. I make my escape and head for the exit only to be greeted by a senior ranking officer. He slaps on his happy boy face, shakes my hand and wishes me a good day. What? Huh? He normally could care less! Then I remember, he has been sucking up to one of the candidates in hopes of a Majors job.

I safely make it out of the political jungle to the safety of the street. I then stop and give thanks that I don’t have to assume the role playing of Jekyll and Hyde to get people to support me. I’m just satisfied being a servant of the people and focus on doing my job rather than putting on a false persona as these people do..

I remember you Stoner you used to do the videos for SWAT when we were at the school and rock pit and you did a great job. Sadly to say Rich has fallen victim the the political bug and as promises of a brighter tommorrow flow freely as do a lot of unrealistic promises. I think he would be a decent Sheriff but I tend to view him lately as everyone viewed ex-Sheriff Marr. If I'm told its raining outside I would have to go look to make sure I believe him. Too many empty promises are being made to the jail officers and they are biting the ole campaign promise hook.

That's too bad about Ferguson. I know he has horses but I have yet to meet him on any trails. If I do happen to run into him on the trail I'll sneak up and slap his horse on the butt. He''ll grab a hand full of reins then. lol

    Default Well anyway....

Yes the political season is upon us. Most of us will not be fooled by last minute back slaps, tenerloin dinners, social club memberships etc..... When I see any of these last minute people showing up I always ask "where the heck have you been." Every political season they all show up acting like they have been involved the whole time. Look aroun people, we all know who has and who has not been involved in our communities, and we are all wise to those late eddies. Lets do something differant this time and actually elect someone based upon their ability and not their performance in elections (like Obama).

Before you slap his horse Stoner, lets hook up a wagon and fill it with Vincent, Rogers and his left testicle Hargrove. We will all have a good laugh as they run off into the sunset whispering empty promises to each other. I agree that the fake shake is getting old boys, it’s a little late to pretend you care for a potential vote.

Sounds like the usual politics found throughout the land. A good candidate has to play politics even if he/she doesn't want to. I wish there were a better way........

Hopefully Howard county will end up with a sheriff that's in it because he wants to do what is best for the community.

    Default You are right stoner

I agree with Stoner, and I think there is a way. Just look at their past behavior and you will see. If they have always been involved and always been committed to their community then it is a safe bet they will continue to be. IF they are just now coming out and getting public then it is fake and for politics only. The guys we have never heard of or seen at community events are not our leaders, they are just getting in for power and money. I say the best way to predict their future actions is to look at their past actions.

Sheriffs as well as stocks......Past history does not guarantee future performance, But...hey that's all we have to go on. Unless someone can come up with something better.
