Do they just have that much better candidates, or are they just more level headed when it comes to politics? I hate the personal attacks I see on individual candidates. These men have families and most are or have been law enforcement officers here. I dont think they deserve the personal attacks just because they had the guts to try to run for Sheriff. Miami County has it right on this one, civility and common sense go a long way!!
Miami country residents probably don't have access to an anonymous forum like this one. Its easy to hide behind a keyboard and blast away at people. The same people that sling political mud in here would not do it face to face to the candidate or on the street. They haven't the intestinal fortitude. Then again......maybe they would.

They do have intestinal something, but I think it is more of a blockage because they sure are full of it.

Default How right you are Stoner

You are exactly right Stoner. The people that make all these personal attacks do not have the back bone to make them in person. You are right in the fact that they can hide behind their keyboards and say anything they want. It is too bad and we all suffer because of it.

    Default Miller for Sheriff

I enjoyed reading all the posts submitted... People do read these "blogs" even in lil ole Miami County. Quite a few I could comment on hidden behind my laptop, but will speak straight from the hip... I am very proud to be a Miami County resident. I think all the local candidates are top notch in different areas. Top notch for Tim Miller is honesty and integrity. I have worked with him in different aspects over the last few years and have found nothing but genuine professionalism and leadership. He puts all of him self out there with his heart and trained knowledge. He is personable and approachable. Mr.Vanbalen is not held in as high regards as some people might think or are lead to believe. Just my two cents....

Isn't it great we still have the freedom to vote... the freedom to choose!

    Default Lived here 50 years....

I am also a proud Miami County resident and have been for over 50 years. I have voted many times in the past for Troopers. At the times I voted for them they were the best candidates. I find this race to be differant. I have not found a single person that has ever heard of trooper Miller, not one. I think that is odd for someone that has been assigned to our post for so many years. I can find hundreds that know and respect vanbaalen. As a matter of fact, integrity and honesty are some of the very first things people say about him and his family. vanbaalen has done wonders for our community, in both business and police work. We are all very aware of his work in drug enforcement, and his job as police Chief. So this election will be differant for me and my neighbors in the fact that the trooper is not the most qualified for our sheriff this time. We also find it very interesting that all the police in Miami County are supporting vanbaalen, says alot to us. Good luck to all candidates and keep it clean.

Today I was looking at a picture of a guy wearing a blue Van Baalen for Sheriff T-shirt. The guy was in the country of Colombia. Short hair with a neatly trimmed beard. Maybe 5'7 or so......hard to tell in the picture. He was maybe in his 20's? Not sure though. I'm not very good at guessing ages.

    Default Why so much support?

I hear that the cops in Miami County are all for vanbaalen, I also hear that he has the FOP with him. If he isnt so "well thought of" then why do the cops back him? And why would the deputies back him to be their boss if they dont like him?? Seems like someone is dead wrong on this one and he is pretty well thought of. I say that all you have to do is talk to people that have worked with someone and see what they say, and he has all of those officers support, so he must not be too bad a guy. And who the heck is Miller, Im sick of hearing he is running for sheriff and cant find anyone that has heard of him. Is he new to the area? Why dosent anyone know him?
