History has already shown us that the most qualified candidate is not usually the one elected anyway. The voters seldom take the time to check into the candidates background or credentials, they vote for the Popular guy. That is why the sheriff job has been passed around over the years to all sorts of characters. Maybe that will change, but I dont see it anytime soon.

Maybe sooner than you think. ISP Detective Mike Tarrah has been telling people the last few days he will be running for Sheriff of Howard County. The bad thing is Mike and Marty are very close friends and word has it he will cut a deal with Marty to make him his Major. Mike would be a great Sheriff, however he dont need Talbert by his side unless he wants to have his administration fail like Talberts has.

If Tarrah runs in Howard county, and Goode in Tipton and Miller/Stinson in Miami And some other trooper in Wabash and on and on.....Doesnt that give us trooper over load?? That is what happened last election when all the troopers won sheriff races.....We may need some fresh looks at our Sheriff Departments

I heard from several Deputies that Dave Vanbaalen has already announced he is running for sheriff in Miami County. I have seen his name all over several post here, and he is running in Miami County. The Deputies I spoke with say he does and will have overwhelming support from law enforcement in Miami County and the business coummunity there. No one else has come out and announced yet, it will be interesting to see how this developes.

I saw the article in the Kokomo Trib today on Miami County and their new jail. It looks like a heck of a project. At 20 Million bucks they better pick a good candidate for sheriff in the next election to staff it and set the budgets straight, or else it could be a huge drag on the tax payers!!

In looking at the other threads, especially the one about Howard County Sheriff. It strikes me how lucky Miami County is with its candidates. The people of Kokomo would kill for the candidates we have in Miami County. This should be a very fruitful elective cycle.

I know Tim Miller personally and I truly believe he will be a great Sheriff. Good heart and a great Trooper.

I thought we read here that vanbalen was the guy in Miami County...Who is Miller??

We at KPD know Dave and most of us cant believe that there would be a better candidate for sheriff than Dave. He has worked here and other counties and has the respect of fellow officers. The deputies in Miami County are really on board and supporting him too. Good luck Miami County.

I talked with some Peru Police the other day and they confirmed that their ex chief, dave van balen is for sure running for sheriff. They said he has all the local law enforcement support and they are all ready to campign for him. Sounds like they are all together on this one.
