    Default New Sheriff coming

I have known Dave Van Baalen since he was a young boy working in the back room of his family shoe store and sporting goods. I have watched him grow into one of the most charitable and giving people in Miami County. No one has been as committed and dedicated to the kids and citizens of this community. We will be blessed to have him as our Sheriff. He did amazing things as Chief of Police and the entire community watched him clean up the streets through the drug task force. We look forward to Dave winning the election and leading the Sheriff department with vision and well established leadership.

    Default Very well said

I agree with this well written statement. I also know Dave and his family, he worked here in Kokomo in the early 80's at his families small business, great people. Dave has had a wonderful career in law enforcement and business and will greatly help the people of Miami County in the Sheriff office. I see tremendous support already for Dave and expect that to continue through the election.

    Default Debates

Word around the county is that Miller does not want to do a debate with questions open to the public. Makes it tough for citizens to make an informed vote.

It makes it easy to decide who to vote for. You don't want a sheriff who won't face his opponent.

    Default State Trooper...enough said.

Word is that Troopers don't feel like they have to debate or do public forums. They are Troopers and that is all that is required to be elected Sherif. That explains no web page, no public debates, no real public addresses, really explains a lot. They have done well in the past Sheriff elections so now they can all just coast.... But do the voters agree?? We will see on May 4.

    Default Rude Awakening

I know for a fact that all the counties are sick of Troopers making their Sheriff position into a retirement home. They are also sick of providing all the troopers wives with jobs too. Find a trooper that is sheriff and you will find retired troopers and their wives working there too....Time for change!

All facts have a reference source. Else they are opinions.

So instead they should vote for a retired city police chief? What is the difference other than the chief is rich? So what is motivating him? Is he just wanting to get his feet wet in politics?

Why aren't any of the deputies running? Can't we promote thru the ranks?

All the posters on this thread seem to be the canidates themselves (blowing their own horns) or butt kissing apple polishers. Which are you?

It doesn't matter who's the sheriff. Most of the population never have any interaction with him. The only people that get all fired up and radical about a sheriff's race are in law enforcement, the candidate's friends and associates, or groupies.
