    Default Ok then

Well now that Miami County has their Sheriff lined up, what about good ole Kokomo. Any new word on who is coming out in Howard County. It is about that time to get rolling. Heck the Miami County guy already has a web site, come on Coppers, who is the guy here in Howard County??

    Default Why just Van Baalen??

Is this guy now running with no competition?? I thought there were some other Troopers names being thrown around over there. Anyone know anything about this?? I see Vanbaalen all over the chats and facebook, he even has a pretty cool web site, but nothing from anyone else. I know the cops really like this guy but he will not run alone will he????

    Default Not so lucky

It seems that there will be at least one other person running in Miami. A trooper from the Peru Post is also saying he is running. Good enough guy, but as I saw on another post we are a little trooper weary here. I think most counties around that have troopers would also agree, we need a change.

    Default Once again.........consider the person

It is amazing how everyone just says "we have too many troopers that are sheriffs, or since we have had troopers before as sheriffs we don't need more".

I consider that discrimination. It is lumping them all into the same bag. It is like saying "all women......" or "all blacks......" or "all whites......." Folks get over stereotyping everyone into a convenient group .......this is 2009!

    Default Dont blame the messenger

Hey if the deputies say they need a change from the way Troopers manage, I dont see how that is so bad. They just dont seem to care for the management style they have seen. It is the one thing they have in common, regardless of which county you talk to they all say the same thing. Nothing personal, just tired of troopers being sheriff....

Default One more bites the dust

Word from Miami County is that one of the potential candidates has dropped out. Stinsen the retired trooper/jail deputy has quit the department and is moving on. So much for him running for sheriff. The Deputies are relieved because it eliminates another trooper from the race. Like many have said in other counties, no more troopers. Nothing personal, just need change......

    Default Race already decided???

Since there have been no new post here since April and since every Miami County Deputy says they are behind the same candidate I guess this race is already over?? Anyone have any new news here to report?? In talking with guys at work from Miami County they say everyone is talking about this Vanbaalen guy being the next sheriff. I cant find anyone that says differant and was just wondering if anyone on here has heard anything? It sounds like Miami County feels the same way about Troopers that Howard and others do, so we will see.

    Since:

    A. I am not a taxpaer/voter in Miami County
    B. Miami County has never tried to facistically impose their laws, ordinances, and taxation rates on me (as the city of Kokomo did through forced annexation)

I should really, really, really not comment on this one, but I just have to address one thing with the poster:

It is actually the voters of Miami County that decide who fills the sherriff spot, not the deputies.

Howard County SD employees, feel free to eavesdrop a bit here... As an average citizen, I have never walked into a voting booth thinking "you know, the deputies want X candidate, I'll vote for that person."

I'm guessing that most voters are the same. I'd say that until the election is held, its still a contest. I think there are enough people voting who aren't deputies to swing this election either way. Jeez, get real.
