    Default Toooo Predicatable

Those of us that know Dave (and I do) all said that this would happen. When ever a candidate with Daves bio and credibility comes out, it drives the nay sayers crazy. You cant attack his education level, you cant attack his experience so what do you do?
When a candidate has no scandal or scars on his record you have to resort to modern day politics---Personal attacks, and dont worry about wheather or not they are true. Daves wife drives a nice car(and what does that have to do with him being sheriff?) Dave owns several businesses and has made a lot of money (and what does that have to do with him being sheriff?) Dave does own a family restarant where you can also get a cold beer (kind of like Chilis,Applebees,Texas Roadhouse and every other family rest in America) and what does that have to do with him being sheriff?? And since there is no other way of smearing him lets just accuse him of the old standby generic political attack-- he chases women.....Wow real creative, too bad there is no truth to it. We all know if there were any substance to this accusation we would have all heard about it by now. The truth is we live in a society where if your successful your corrupt, if your happily married you cheat and if you are rich your evil. Cmon people we can do better than this. If you dont think Dave is qualified than say so, if he is inexperienced say so, but keep it real and truthful so we can have an honest debate. By the way the only party in Miami County was the one the criminals all had when Dave retired, and now that one is over too....

Default Who has their panties in a wad now?

I don't know Dave and I don't care to know him. I think you are getting in a big huff about a comment from ONE idiot. Don't overreact so badly. Or is this just Dave posting about Dave again?

I went to his site. His resume does look good, but so what, so does the other guy's. The chief chooses who he sends to the FBI school. So Dave sent himself. The chief serves at the discretion of the mayor. So at least the mayor at that time liked him and found him competent. The politcs of a small town usually have more to do with promotions than ability.

And by the way, you cannot own a liquor license and be sheriff in the state of Indiana.

    Default Posted by a moron....

I work in law enforcement in Howard County, like most of kpd we know van baalen and have seen his work. We have also seen many of our fellow officers attend the FBI academy, and no a chief cant just send someone to the academy. Ask anyone or visit the FBI site, they pick you and you are invited. That is why so few ever attend. To my knowledge no other chief in Peru or other small towns has attended the fbi academy, huh must be pretty special huh. And as I see it the reason you will see so many come out in defense of vanbaalen is because of idiots attacking someone they dont know (or as you so brightly put it, dont care to know, makes for a great informed voter). And the fact that vanbaalen as stated on his site was promoted to every position at his department says something about politics too, if he was there 20 years that equates to lots of differant mayors and chiefs, so much for that argument. I only wish dave would have come to kokomo when so many of us asked him to. And your knowledge of the laws shows your intelligence, genius. I guess you havent looked into what the liquor license law really says huh....The only challenge van baalen faces in the race for Miami County is beating a trooper. As in all counties troopers win sheriff races, this may be the year for change in all counties including ours.....time will tell.

    Default Hit the repeat button

We may want to keep this post handy, we will have to replay it many times between now and May. I have talked to many Miami County Deputies and they have already identified 2 or 3 of their co workers who will do and say anything to stop vanbaalen form being sheriff, and we all know why....fear of being made to do their jobs. So just keep hitting replay on this post anytime they spread their propaganda.

    Default I love these post

I dont live in Miami County so I find little reason to wade into a debate about their elections, but I do enjoy the entertainment of these post. I dont find much out on this site about the candidates, but it is entertaining. I like reading the post and find that you can learn so much about all the posters just by reading them. Lets look at this one.
    1) I dont know Dave and I dont care to....Wow what that really says is I do know him and I dont like him.
    2) Is this just dave posting about dave again...what this one really says is that no one is so well liked that a stranger would defend you like this...
    3) His resume does look good, but so what , so does the other guys....I have tried and tried to find more about the other guy, and all I can find to date is that his name is Tim Miller and he is a Sgt. with the Indiana State Police, if there is more out there I sure cant find it, so this tells us that the post was probably made by him or someone very close to him.
    4) The chief chooses who he send to the FBI school ,so dave sent himself... After checking I found that there isnt a chief in driving distance of Kokomo who has attended this school and I dont know of any post KPD chiefs who have attended it. I also dont see it on the resume of any of the current sheriff candidates, so it must not be all that easy. This one reminds me of people that say college is over rated, spoken by someone that doesnt have it, or anyone can be a Dr. you just have to go to medical school. And dont you "send yourself" to medical school too? Just makes you wonder
    5) The chief serves at the discretion of the mayor, so at least the mayor at the time liked him. So anyone can be chief, wonder why there arent more of them?
    6) I love this one, The politics of a small town usually have more to do with promotions than ability...really, Isnt the chief in New York also appointed by the Mayor, and in Kokomo? Does that mean that the promotions are as easy in big towns as they are in small towns?? Again if it were so easy why isnt everyone promoted?? Or why is it really easier in a small town with fewer promoted positions than in a big town with lots of available positions?? Just wondering. I mean if there are only a few promoted spots in KPD but thousands in NYPD which is easier to get??
    7) Ok I admit this last one threw me, You cannot own a liqour license and be sheriff in the State of Indiana....I dont know who does or does not own a liquour license and I really dont know if you can or cant, but if this is true than why would anyone with a liquour license be so stupid as to not check into this before spending the time and money to run for sheriff??? This one also makes me think the poster is closer to the candidates then he lets on....time will tell.
Well that is it for my fun for the day. Good luck all you Miami County candidates, I cant help or hurt you but I will enjoy watching you run. As for Howard County, this thing is just getting going, it will be like the carnival came to town before it is over.

    Default Voting for Vanbaalen

I am from the Southern Miami County area and my family owns a farm there. We have watched this site for some time and tried to figure out what to do on the sheriff race. I have taken the time to talk to deputies and other police officers. I have found that an overwhelming number of them maybe as high as 90% favor vanbaalen. I always ask why and they explain in a very intelligent manner that he is the most qualifed of the 2 running. I have nothing against troopers and consider myself typical as voters go. We will be voting for vanbaalen in the spring due to the fact that he appears to be qualified and has the support of the police.

    Default Any updates here?

With all the news I have been seeing coming from Miami County, I havent seen anything new on this hot sheriff race. I saw stuff early in the summer, but now all is quiet. Has anyone here heard anything new?? Is the retired chief still running?? When do candidates announce anyway?

Default VanBaalen is still the best choice

Yes he is still running, and yes he still has the support of local law enforcement. He just isnt out joining every club and attending every social event he can for votes. It will still be a good election cycle with voters of Miami County being the winners.
