At this point Steve is the only candidate ready for the job. The rest will take 1/2 of their term to learn how to be the boss. Steve knows the department, budgets and what it takes to be in charge.
Rogers has two strikes against him before he starts. One he was endorsed by Talbert and second Hargrove is planning to be his Major. Rogers is a alright guy, but the two most disliked people on the department supporting you isn't smart.
Also Rogers has talked about running and staying for one term. Speculation from people close to him is if he won the first term he would run for a second term (they are pretty much assured of a win for a second term) stay one year, make Talbert his Major, then retire. Marty then would be the Sheriff again. This county has had enough drama without Talbert or Hargrove in a position of authority!
Someone needs a hobby, these conspiracy theories abound. Question 1 is Rogers qualified, answer. yes. Question 2 is he the best candidate for the job? Answer is. maybe. But to go any further about the other stuff is just silly and no one cares. This race will be about who can do the best job and who gets out their message, not who their major may or may not be, and not about who did or did not endorse them. The general public does not care!!!
Disregarding this one UG's regurgitation, what are the qualifications for this candidate? We shouldn't judge until we know what he has to offer.
The average voter is the best argument that our school system is failing.
Qualifications??? Been there forever! He knows everything about the Sheriff Dept. I think since 67 or 69. Has been a detective, Lt. in charge of detective, Major (twice). He is the only person to graduate from the FBI National Academy (I believe). Some college, but I am not sure if he has a degree or not. Morals, Ethics, Leadership. He has it all. His downfall?? Two things, 1) He is sometimes too nice of a guy. 2) His supposed selection of Major. I know people think that shouldn't matter, but it does to the Deputies. Having an a**hole to get things done or request stuff is very demoralizing and juvenile. Trust me, ask the deputies about the last Capt. I don't think even Sheriff Talbert was as rude as this guy. Steve Rogers looks best on paper, and he really is a nice guy. And yes, I have been in his office for not-so-good reasons. He still treated me fairly and with dignity.
