Sean P. Kinney, a 26-year-veteran of the Kokomo, Indiana Police Department, has been named the new Chairman of the American Board of Law Enforcement Experts and joined the board for its parent association, the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security.

With more than 30 years of experience in criminal and forensic investigations, Kinney will be a great addition to the both boards, bringing a wide range of knowledge through the programs he’s written in the criminal justice field and lectures he’s given.
*
“I hope to bring to ABLEE my enthusiasm for the field of law enforcement, especially, in the areas of Forensic and Criminal Investigations,” Kinney said.

In addition to the annual five-week crime scene investigation certification program he both wrote and taught, the managerial skills he employed while operating the Kokomo Police Department Forensic Laboratory and Forensic Investigation Unit, and the numerous criminal justice- and forensics-related certifications he holds, Kinney has also testified as a criminal and forensic investigative consultant on the local, state, federal, and international level. These experiences have prepared Kinney to take over ABLEE with high aspirations for its members.

“I hope to have an eight-level criminal, forensic, and master investigator certifications up and running by January 1, 2012—if not sooner,” he said. “In five years, I hope to see that, in addition to those certifications, we have developed several more specialty programs—which are needed because of the large increase of law enforcement membership.
*
“Recruitment and sustained membership is also a priority for this board. I look forward to working with the many law enforcement professionals across the country and outside of the United States, but I especially look forward to working with the very talented and knowledgeable ABLEE board members to create a new era for ABLEE.”
