    Default Breaking news...

An active arson investigation is apparently underway concerning fire Wednesday at a property either owned or being purchased by the Confidential Informant in the Kirk/Davis probe into the activities of a local businessman.

Sources tell NIK that there may be evidence of threats made in retaliation for this editorial piece in the Kokomo Perspective last week.

    ... developing....

Information about this whole incident seems as 'hush-hush' as it could possibly become... Oddly, NO ONE is saying anything since the original news surfaced.

What we had been told originally was that there was a fire on 11/12 at a location either being purchased or owned by a 'controversial' party, and that some kind of threatening message was found at the scene.

The threats aroused arson suspicion early in the investigation. Outside agencies may be assisting.

Several non-police bystanders noted Kokomo Police Chief Rob Baker at the scene... sitting in his vehicle and observing firefighting efforts.. similar to other area fires. See this article and specifically this quote:

Baker, interestingly, has exhibited unusual concern in these fires from their onset. We’re told the former Major of Support Services inexplicably arrived, in the middle of the night, at the fireground of two suspicious blazes.
That's all we know. Someone has a very tight lid on the rest of the story.

The fact the Chief seems to all of a sudden show up at the scene would make one wonder, especially if it was before the FD called it as a arson............. Is it customary for the dispatchers to automatically notify the Chief on fires now?

I knew in the past the on duty officer made the call to notify the administration only if the fire involved death. The person notified was usually a senior ranking officer or Major not the Chief...

Short Perspective article on this fire today:

Interior fire damage business of KPD 'confidential informant'.

"Last night (Nov. 12) when I heard the address, I ran the coincidences together myself," said Kern.
... and there are a few 'coincidences', aren't there, Chief Kern?

Many in the community... I assure you... express great pride and confidence in KFD for maintaining credibility in a otherwise lacking city administration.

I see in the Perspective there has been two fires at that residence/business now................... Maybe the investigators need to look inside the department as well as outside the department.
