Default Delphi Terminations

According to media accounts, up to 600 salaried employees at Delphi are being terminated from the Kokomo operations. This week employees are being informed if they will be terminated or not. I have been told that selection of the 600 is being done based, as it should be, on performance ratings. One on one meetings are being done between managers and employees to notify those that will be terminated.

Word is that Commissioner Brad Bagwell, the former Republican Party Chairman, was one of many who got bad news concerning his status with the firm. Can anyone else confirm this process and the status of Commissioner Bagwell?

Yeah sounds like the former Republican chairman and this year's most unliked Republican candidate, Bagwell, just got a taste of Bush-Daniels economics.

Wonder if he or the three local attorneys who had to file bankruptcy this week will revaluate their party affiliations now that their party has let them down too!

Hate to see anyone lose their job, but, as long as it is a right wing nut that helped create the problems, then that is good news.

Actually, I heard quite the opposite; that the layoffs were based on departments and not individuals.
Is there someone who can confirm this one way or the other for us?
I'd HATE to think that these folks losing their jobs would have to endure the embarassment of being seen as "underperformers" if it isn't true. They have enough to deal with already.

I also heard there was a gentleman who has worked there for OVER 29 YEARS AND THEY WON'T GIVE HIM RETIREMENT. I can't IMAGINE something like this could be true!

And who might THEY be? And why in the WORLD would they have to file bankruptcy?

They won't get it until they reach retirement age, and it is based on the 29 years. The non-union group does not have 30 and out and if they are short of the time then they will have to wait until they are 62 for a reduced pension or 65 for the full benefit. Most places of employment will not provide a pension during a lay off or closure unless you hit the retirement age and qulifiers that are required by the plan.

Default Poor performers should go in every organization

Any company with brains would layoff and terminate based on performance. If not, you could be left with the poor performers trying to compete globally with firms full of peak performers. GE terminates based on performance all the time and it works.

You have got to be kidding. You're telling me that Mexico, China, India hire and fire based on performance? This is who we are competing with. And who judges the "performance" the boss I won't sleep with? The boss who is pissed at his wife so he gives me bad marks? What world do you live in?
