Why is it that we all want, seek and buy as cheap as we can and even brag to our friends how low the cost was for our purchase and then bash the companies that make it possible.

When we call out Walmart for using sweat shops the workers in most or maybe all of those shops are very grateful for the wages paid and the hours worked. In their country they get high wages by comparison to other employment available.

Automotive has only them selves to blame. If it was cheaper to manufacture in the States then that is where the product would be made. Between the government regulations and the unions, end prices have been driven up farther than the consumer can handle.

Smart consumers will always look at price first.

Gotta disagree with this one.......This attitude is why we lost so many jobs to foreign manufacturers. You should always temper the price with other factors.
Personally , I don't look much beyond where it was made. Home grown products should be first on our lists. The American consumer should support American manufacturing first. The Japanese are very successful because they support their companies first. You don't see too many of them driving American cars, they support the Japanese auto industry. We should do the same. And don't start blaming our gov't. No one makes the consumer buy the foreign crap. If our consumers didn't buy foreign crap, there would be no trade deficit, but there would be a lot more jobs here. I'd rather pay a little more, even for an inferior product, and keep the jobs at home..........The American people have only themselves to blame..........

What you say is admirable but if it were also true the jobs would not have gone elsewhere. Too many people talk American but buy on price feeling that if it works for them as long as they expect it to work, then it is a good deal.

Americans are good manufacturers but they are also very arrogant. They believe they are the best in the world at everything. The problems lies in that there is always someone better at what you do and always someone smarter the you.

If you are smart enough you will find a way to compete with your product in the marketplace you wish to sell in. If the market demands the best performance, you build that. If the market demands the best price, you build for that.

You missed my point, entirely. The American people need to support each other, instead of always looking at their wallet. Greed is a horrible thing. It's gotten us where we are today.......

I accept your point as a very valid observation. But in today's economy and the high unemployment causing most people to look hard at every dollar spent it ain't gonna happen.
If manufacturers and retailers are going to make a profit and compete they will always do what the consumer demands. The consumer, at this point in time, is demanding low prices and just enough quality to get them through the day.

I totally disagree. In todays' economy, more than ever we need to support American companies. They are the ones creating jobs. Buying American helps to secure your neighbors job. I realize some foreign companies assemble products here. But it's usually foreign parts being assembled, and the profit dollar goes overseas, which de-values the ones left here. So I still say, BUY AMERICAN !!!!!!

I am not arguing about what should be done, I am stating what will be done. Until the job market improves drastically this buying on the cheap will continue. Patriotism will only go as far as family money is available.

If the people cannot afford to buy American, the resulting effect is predictable, they won't.

Chrysler is owned by the Italians. GM is "Government Motors". Ford is your only choice.
What’s the difference between liberals and puppies? Puppies stop whining when they grow up.
