Default Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."

YouTube - Pelosi: we have to pass the health care bill so that you can find out what is in it

I thought this might have been from a speech long ago, or maybe taken out of context.

From PR Newswire, the total text of Pelosi's speech: Click here.

    The section in the video:

"You've heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don't know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention -- it's about diet, not diabetes. It's going to be very, very exciting.

"But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy. Furthermore, we believe that health care reform, again I said at the beginning of my remarks, that we sent the three pillars that the President's economic stabilization and job creation initiatives were education and innovation -- innovation begins in the classroom -- clean energy and climate, addressing the climate issues in an innovative way to keep us number one and competitive in the world with the new technology, and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform. Health insurance reform is about jobs. This legislation alone will create 4 million jobs, about 400,000 jobs very soon.
With all due respect, Speaker, there isn't any fog of controversy. Americans have, as the President stated so eloquently, had every discussion and debate there is to have on this issue.

... and the bottom line is... the majority of American's don't like this Bill and furthermore don't trust you, Harry Reid, or the President to be our true servants (as you swore to do).

I don't know if I like it or not. I don't know what's in it. Nor do I think the powers that be know what's in it. How can we discuss it if the contents haven't been made public? All we're hearing is generalities. I want facts.

What an atrocity. This is a turning point in our history. I fear it is for the worse.

Old Buick, the only FACT in your statement is you're obsessed with partisan politics.

The Senate Bill... the one that will become law if the House decides to act... is public record.

It's complicated, to be sure. Here's one of many analysis' that should give you some idea...

In another thread you said Bayh isn't quitting, then referred to Sarah Palin as the "darling of the right". Who's being partisan ??????

Tell me what isn't fact about my statement. Bayh is finishing his term, right? That means not quitting.

Palin quit mid term and she is the darling of the right, right? Now what is partisan about anything I've stated.

Again, your statement that democrats favor the bill, therefore it is bad for the country. Highly partisan.

OK. I admit I'm a Republican, and a conservative. And you?
