    Default Street stimulus projects

Thoughts on the round-a-bout and the Apperson/Markland change.

I can understand that when stimulus money is offered we need to take it. It is only Fed. tax money and that is free. It is not like anyone in town pays Fed. Income Tax so who can it hurt ?

Will either project bring Kokomo jobs ? Are the consultant groups and the construction jobs staying in Kokomo ? Will this bring new business opportunities to Kokomo ? Will this increase our local tax base ? How have we survived this many years without this being done ? How exactly will this make our lives better ???????

Well the consultants get paid and the designers will get paid and then slip the Mayor some campaign money for his effort.

At least the bio fuel project was or maybe still is an attempt to save money for we taxpayers. They just tried to save more money by using amateurs instead of professional that know how it is done.

The road projects are only grabbing money from the fed. and state because it is there. No taxpayer savings or real residents benefit.

Not that Im a huge fan of round-a-bouts however they do have a place in our town. And something really needs done to the intersection of Markland and Park. Its a huge waste of time sitting at a 4way stop during the busy times of day.

Another thing they need to look into...after the new bypass is completed they need to do with old 31 what they did to 431. Take away the stop lights and make off shoot access to intersections.
If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea... does that mean that one enjoys it?

Markland and Park could use a stop light and most of the traffic problems would go away. It would cost less than 1/5 the cost of major road changes.

Removing stop lights in favor of a traffic pattern change would be welcomed by everyone on the now 31 bypass. Maybe jug handles would be a solution.

Well K-fuel was a huge flop and waste of money regardless of where the money came from and the worst part is that the Mayor and his cronies are lieing to people about how it's going. They haven't produced any K-fuel for well over a year.

First of all it will cost local tax payers money because there is a 20% match on the grant which on $1,500,000 would cost tax local payers $300,000. I would encourage everyone to check on all the grant money being spent because there are percentages that the city would have to come up with in order to get the grant. If it's absolutely nessessary then federal grants would be something really good for the communityas far as value is concerned. But if we are using grant money and the match just for politics then we need a consulting firm to tell us this is money well spent or just plain politics. Where was all this grant money during the mayor's first two years. Same as all the other politicians, do they really think people don't see what's going on?

TimeforChange... first of all, Welcome to NotInKokomo.Com. I do believe you are our first new member since our own 'change' to a registered-only forum.

We're glad to see you here!

Your comments concerning federal grant matching mirror my own concern: there is never 'free' money with no strings attached when it comes to our enormously-wasteful federal grant programs.

How is it that these 'matches' are never mentioned in the local or even state media? Is there a way to determine how much local money has been co-opted by 'free' stimulus programs? I'd sure like to know...

Take, for example, the new 'free' bus service in Kokomo. It's been touted as 'free' federal money everywhere... yet... is it?

    I wonder....

    NIK
