Default What has Sheriff Talbert accomplished in 6 years?

One has to sit back and look at the career of an ISP trooper turned county Sheriff and ask the question what has he accomplished? I have never seen the deputies so fed up with a Sheriff as they are with him. With-in 30 days of his first term the deputies were totally disgusted with the big me little you approach to leadership. Can someone clearify this for me, just what has he accomplished that has improved the Sheriffs department?

We heard a lot of promises during his campaign and haven’t seen the matching results. His big plan to run HCSD like ISP has backfired big time, causing the deputies to turn their backs on the ideas he attempted to use and him as a person. This county is ready for a new Sheriff! One with insight into the real problems and a candidate who is approachable by the community and department. The ONLY thing that has kept the department afloat for the last six years is the guidance and leadership of Major Steve Rogers.

It's time to begin looking for Talberts replacement since 2010 is just around the corner. This county needs a top notch Sheriff who really want to help the community and department grow. The Sheriffs Department needs to be ran like a sheriffs department and not modeled after ISP or another agency......................

He's made it so all the Deputies will be forced to carry a 9mm hand gun, instead of the side arm they choose, know and shoot well. Is that an accomplishment?

If you read the newspaper article you will also notice he was modeling this latest move once again after ISP. Oh boy, I get a free gun when I retire that was payed for by the taxpayers. I'd rather carry a gun I know and trust, not one he forces on us because he cant get in Sheriff mode and is still stuck in ISP mode. COME ON 2010!!!!!!!!

What would have been said if Talbert picked the Israeli 50 caliber Desert Eagle? This weapon is powerful, reliable and as accurate as the person operating it and cost $1,500.00 a copy. I would love one as a retirement present.

I'd like a Desert Eagle also, but in this case he would most likely give the gun to ISP when someone retires at HCSD thinking it would be too much weapon for a retired deputy to have. Most are not happy with his newest brain storm but don’t dare speak out on the matter because of the fear of being singled out. Experience has taught everyone to bend over and take it, keeping a focus on the end of his term.

The really funny thing was two weeks ago someone posted a picture of a new shoulder patch, changed it from a five point star and HCSD to a blue triangle and put HSCD a subsidiary of ISP. It seems like the Sheriffs HCSD loyalty is playing second fiddle to his ISP past. The men and women of the SD chose to wear brown and not blue and he seemed to have forgotten that. Don’t get me wrong, I have several good friends on ISP and it wouldn’t be tolerated for one second if a new post commander tried to shove the ways of another agency down their throats.

At this point in time the only thing employees can do is to keep their chins up and hope for a new Sheriff whose real loyalty is to the SD and Howard County residents! LDC

I know a lot off law enforcement departments are required to carry only the issue weapon. While attending a funeral I met a deputy sheriff with a 1911 model as his service weapon. I asked him about that and he said he preferred the 45, so I take it Indiana sheriffs department can carry the weapon of their choice if they pay for it.

You’re correct most sheriffs departments do give the deputy's a choice. He implemented this new plan and in the paper made mention that ISP (of course) does it.......... The sad part is he made a lot of election promises and we have seen what happened with that.

A older deputy once said "The road to hell is paved with good intentions and the path of a politician is littered with broken promises". Talk about the truth..................

What, exactly, are the "a lot of election promises" the Sheriff has failed to implement?

Can you help us out on that?

Well for starters he and his minions seem to run the hard working ones in the ground or if they are in "at will" status, He pushes them till they break and heaven forbid if you get on the bad side because then you get threatened with your job every other day until they either have a breakdown quit or get fired! Seems to have been going on lately unless you're one of the pets! And a 9mm for heavens sake man get real and open your eyes, a lot of agencies went away from the 9 because of the lack of stopping power but there again it's the isp way or none at all. and the little committee that was put together was another nice tactic of smoke and mirrors.
